Airfare

Hello family,

Though it is only February it is time to start seriously looking at airfare! Prices to Europe always go up about $400 or more after April 1. Booking no later than March 15 is probably a really good idea.

We mentioned earlier the possibility of group airfare discounts. However, after talking to everyone it sounds like lots of people have travel plans in addition to Denmark. Unless at least 16 out of 20 people all intend to have the exact same travel route from beginning to end the group discount won't work. So, it will be best for everyone to work on their own travel arrangements.

Discounted Airfare website suggestions:

A good site that I have found is 1800flyeurope.com. Travelocity.com with the flexible option used to be the best, but they have discontinued the flexible option on international travel so it is very rarely the best site for airfare purchases anymore. Another good site is travelzoo.com. This site allows you to search multiple discounted airfare sites at once. (Be sure and choose the flexible date option! Prices are almost always less than when you choose the exact date option.) If you intend to do more travel in Europe another good site is www.icelandair.com. With Iceland Air, be sure to go to the website and get the phone number and call! For some reason the website quotes way high prices, but when you just call an agent it's always a lot cheaper and they're usually very helpful.)

If anyone finds a really great deal go ahead and post a comment on the blog or email and let everyone know where to look. Good luck finding some cheap tickets!!!

We just got a decent hotel and airfare package for 4 through www.entertainment.com. It came to $1207 per person for airfare and hotel (4 nights in Copenhagen). It's not a fantastic deal, by any means, but the hotel in Copenhagen is lovely!
I have found a few websites especially helpful in shopping for airfare (I've been shopping for travel online for 7 years now):
www.farecompare.com
www.orbitz.com

As far as hotel, you can usually find a decent deal through priceline: www.priceline.com.

In our search, we found some of the best deals to be those that included air and hotel, so you may want to search for 'package deals' on sites like www.entertainment.com & www.europeanvacations.com.

Icelandair (www.icelandair.com) seems to have the lowest fares right now. I suggest buying your fare from NYC to Copenhagen. Then you can figure out how to get to NYC separately if you like.

The Kent Petersen crew will be spending a few nights in NYC on their return trip - gotta hike to the top of the Statue of Liberty at some point in life, you know.

If anyone needs help finding deals on travel to CPH, feel free to email me - sarah.petersen@yahoo.com.

Love you all and wish I could come!
Sarah
