The Plan
Day 1: Saturday, July 28
Travel from United States to Denmark. Travel from Copenhagen to Blokkhus. Stay in group accommodations. (For any of you who might be concerned about privacy, a Guest House is basically like renting a nice cabin in Island Park. The living room, bathroom, and kitchen area are for the group, but there are individual bedrooms, so no one need worry about sleeping on sleeping bags with 20 other people around. We will be renting a few of these that will be within walking distance of one another.)
Day 2: Sunday, July 29
Attend church (in Alborg.) Relaxation and travel recovery time.
Days 3-7: Monday-Friday, July 30-August 3
Will be spent exploring the villages of our ancestors including; Aalborg, Thisted, Nibe, Hjorring, and Fredrikshavn. We will also explore some of the more scenic areas on the Jutland Peninsula, including a trip to the presevered medieval village of Ribe. We are currently working out which order will be the most logical.
There will be a large variety of activities to choose from. No one needs to feel obligated to stay in the group. We know that while bird watching on the traveling sand dunes may be one person's top choice another may prefer to try some deep sea fishing. We want everyone to enjoy themselves and not leave feeling that they missed out on what they really wanted to do. So, please, ideas and suggestions will be given for an itinerary, but feel free to do whatever captures your fancy.
Our lodgings are central to all of the major towns we would like to hit, Fredrikshavn being the furthest at an approximate drive time of 1 1/2 hours. We have been assured that we will be staying within an easy distance of the train and bus stations. Anyone who is interested in renting a car is welcome to do so if they would prefer.
Day 8: Saturday, August 4
We will clean, pack, and checkout by 10:00 a.m. and travel to Copenhagen.
If anyone needs to break from the group and get home to work or family members that were unable to attend, this would probably be the best day for you to do so
Days 9-11: Sunday-Tuesday, August 5-7
Will be spent site seeing in Copenhagen. Once again, the order hasn't been established, and again anyone who has something special in mind that they'd like to see, please feel free! One of those days will be a Sunday and we will be attending church in Copenhagen. We would also like to attend the Copenhagen temple either Saturday evening or sometime Tuesday.
Day 12: Wednesday, August 8
Travel back to the United States.
